The 1960s are widely considered the heyday for rock and roll music. By no coincidence the “British Invasion” of the Beatles was in the 60s. The band was made up of four members: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The Beatles singlehandedly redefined pop culture. With their ingenious songwriting and charisma, the Beatles ignited the youth of the nation and bridged a generation gap. They embodied a rock and roll attitude with their long hair and unique personalities, yet the group’s harmony really set them apart. Beyond just their musical success, their influence stretched across the Atlantic. They started trends in both song writing and the recording studio. With the talents of McCartney and Lennon as composers, the Beatles wrote their own songs and then had an experimental approach in the studio. Although the band broke up by 1970, at the end of the line the Beatles ended up with the most #1 singles of all time with 20. It is estimated the band has sold more than 600 million records worldwide. Another feat that may never be broken is at one time the Beatles owned the entire top 5 singles in the top 45 on the billboard charts. When it is all set and done, the Beatles are considered the best band of all time.
